Is online fire training suitable?
Is online fire training suitable? All staff in a workplace need regular fire training and also others with a role in the fire plan will need additional tuition. This can cause a lot of disruption, especially if there is a high turnover of staff.
We look at how online training can work and also sometimes why it doesn’t!
Many organisations carry out online fire training for a number of different subjects. However, many do not opt for online fire training. This is because fire training must be suitable and sufficient and be based on the workplace.
Is online fire training suitable? Why some online courses are not!
If online training is not about a workplace then it may not pass a fire service audit.
Some components of online training may pass a fire service audit. For example, if training covers the type of extinguishers in a workplace it will be sufficient. However, if the extinguishers in a workplace are different types (ie water mist) and this is not covered then it will not pass.
Hazard spotting sessions may also be suitable, but if a workplace has different risks it will not be suitable.
Lastly, since fire training for staff should be based on a workplace fire emergency plan most online training courses will be pass fire service audits.
